Bradford’s “Christmas Dickens”
It will be the “Christmas Dickens” in downtown Bradford and will be on display at the vintage Christmas event in the historic district of downtown Bradford on December 8th.
The event is organized and sponsored by the Bradford Downtown Business District Authority and the city’s main street program.
According to Anita Dolan, this year’s theme is “Dickens Vintage Christmas” will bring Bradford back to the roots of the Victorian era by celebrating the charm and character of the era.
“The important period of Bradford was from the 1890s to 1920, so this is a perfect event to reflect the impact of that period and time on Bradford,” Dolan said.
Dolan wants the Bradford community to participate in the day’s activities. Activities scheduled for the day included Dickens Christmas at Horne Hall, a horse-drawn carriage, free children’s Christmas movies at Main Street Moviehouse and a children’s breakfast with Santa.
“We really want to see the singer group in the Victorian costumes,” Dolan said. Community groups such as church choirs, youth groups and community organizations are welcome to attend. Community groups are also encouraged to host “warming” stations for shoppers.
They can serve hot chocolate, snacks and warm ciders. There will be a Dickens theme window decoration contest and a Dickens theme costume competition.
“Victorian-style clothing doesn’t have to be complicated,” adds Dolan. “People who wear clothing in all parts of our historic neighborhood will have a huge impact on the event.”
